Local Brewers

Atlanta is quickly becoming a hub of great beer here in the Southeast and Atlanta Beer Festivals wouldn’t be where it is today without the help and support of our local brewers. Help them grow by showing your support; visit their brewery tours, ask for their beers at your favorite bar or restaurant, and spread the word to your friends.

SweetWater Brewing Company

Website: SweetwaterBrew.com

SweetWater’s roots began back in Boulder, Colorado in the early 90?s while Freddy Bensch and Kevin McNerney were roommates at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

During their time out west, they realized they had more of a hankering for beer than books. Their first step into the profession was washing kegs on the loading docks of a local brewery for free beer. Not a bad job when you’re in college! With all this free beer, their grades went up, their cars got fixed, friends were plentiful and the sun shined a little brighter. Once they were finished with school, it was time to either find a real job, or get serious in the brewing business. Easy choice, right? Freddy and Kevin headed off to the American Brewers Guild in California aka Brewing School to sharpen up their knowledge of “Fermentation Science”! After that they were off and running brewing beer for other breweries around the west coast, learning their craft while keeping the dream of their own place alive.

Red Brick Brewing Company

Website: RedBrickBrewing.com

Although Red Brick Brewing Company (ABC) was formed in 1993, it had fallen on hard times. A new management team led by Robert Budd, President, was brought in along with some new investment about the beginning of 2006. As the company was moved to a new location in 2007, the future began to brighten. New management including Richard Fowler (Sales), Anthony Rodriguez (Retail), and Robert Fabbrini (Operations), were brought in to join veteran Brewmaster, Dave McClure, in growing the company. 2007 began the journey of Regional, National, and World championship medals won by the Red Brick core brands of Blonde, Brown, Pale, and Porter as well as seasonal and specialty offerings.

We are proud of our Southern roots, the heritage of great Southern beer, and our position as the oldest craft brewery in Georgia.

Although we have recently expanded to the adjoining Southern states, we see no reason to expand outside the South. Bringing great local beer to our regional market that has a 330 year brewing history is and will remain our mission.

Terrapin Beer Company

Website: TerrapinBeer.com

Terrapin Beer Company was born when two brewers met while working together at a microbrewery in Atlanta. Looking around at what other breweries in the SE were doing, Spike and John felt they could make a contribution. Realizing that anyone could make just another pale ale, brown ale or stout, Spike and John set their sights on crafting beers unlike any that were currently available in the SE.

Terrapin introduced its first beer, the Rye Pale Ale in April of 2002. Six months later while only available on draft in Athens, Terrapin’s sole offering won the American Pale Ale Gold Medal at the 2002 Great American Beer Festival. Only six months old, Terrapin had arrived in style!

Wild Heaven Craft Beers

Website: WildHeavenCraftBeers.com

Wild Heaven is a Georgia company created by lifelong Georgians – founder Nick Purdy and consulting brewmaster Eric Johnson. Our core year-round portfolio is focused on world-class beers designed to offer something new to the beer landscape—not simply creating our version of what everyone else is doing.

Our beers are designed in the great tradition of European brewing but with a distinctly American creative flair. Our all-grain, no adjunct-sugar philosophy creates bigger flavor without excess alcohol. Serve your neighbor!

Wild Heaven aims to be one of America’s great breweries as well as helping raise the profile of beer in the south. Our plan includes a new brewery in Decatur, Georgia by 2013. Our beers will be available on draft in Georgia & Alabama in September of 2010 and in bottles later in 2010.

JailHouse Brewing Co.

Website: JailHouseBrewing.com

In August of 2008, an aspiring young brewer with big dreams and neophyte confidence plunged head first into an adventure wrought with stories of mountainous challenges, perilous doubt and the occasional ghost story (more on that in a minute) determined to brew the beer he loved and wanted to share with fellow beer-loving brothers and sisters.

If it weren’t for the challenges posed, one might speculate whether JailHouse Brewing Company would have ever made it from paper and pen dreams to concrete and stainless steel reality. You see, it’s not the fear of failure or loss that drives us, it’s the fear of not trying.

Monday Night Brewing

Website: MondayNightBrewing.com

Monday Night Brewing is an Atlanta-based craft beer company. We currently offer two delicious styles of beer on draft in select Atlanta establishments.

Believe it or not, the idea for Monday Night Brewing grew out of a small Atlanta Bible study (Yes, that Bible. The Bible where Jesus’ first miracle was to make more wine to keep a party going). We started brewing beer together on Monday nights as a way to get to know each other better. As we got more engrained in the industry and more people started showing up to brew with us, beer quickly became more than just a weeknight hobby.

We spent almost 5 years perfecting our Eye Patch Ale and Drafty Kilt Scotch Ale before bringing them to market. Years of minor tweaks, arguments over hop profiles, and experiments with different brands of base malts are poured into every glass that we brew.

Monks Mead

Website: MonksMead.com

We are Georgia’s first, and only, Meadery. We have one simple goal – create the best tasting mead in the world for everyone to enjoy.

Our mead is a bit different from any other mead that you might have tried. It is clean, crisp, and dry with a nice touch of carbonation. While there are many styles of mead out there, this is our favorite and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Thanks!
Justin & Martin

Eventide Brewing

Website: EvetideBrewing.com

Eventide is a start-up brewery in Atlanta, GA. It was founded on the idea that great beer doesn’t have to be complicated and good beer should be enjoyable. We are also focused on bringing sessionable craft beer to everyone. The biggest trend, and subsequent impediment, in craft/micro brewing is the almost obsessive need to make the biggest, hoppiest, strangest beer possible, which is great for advancing the boundaries of what can be done with beer but does not satisfy a daily thirst. We pride ourselves on making great beer, with all the flavor one could want, that people will actually want to drink whenever and with whatever. Again, great doesn’t have to be complicated.

Another of our fundamental ideas is that brewing is free, and should be open. So, with this in mind, we will share as many of our “secrets” as possible with everyone so that they too can make great beer at home. If you ever have questions please reach out, we are more than happy to share what we know! (Seriously, we will talk about brewing and all of it’s components for hours…love this stuff.)
